Marthe Armitage Prints turns wallpaper design into award-winning fabric

We're delighted to hear that one of our corporate members, Marthe Armitage Prints Ltd, has just been awarded 'Best Printed Fabric' in the Homes & Gardens Design Awards 2024 for their 'Lobby' design which started life as a hand-printed wallpaper. Bringing the design to life was apparently a labour of love. The wallpaper originally hung in the lobby of Marthe's Georgian house and the complexity of its three-block design led Marthe to set it aside.

However, using the traditional screen-print process, the designers at Marthe Armitage were able to replicate Marthe's method of hand-printing, overlaying two colours to produce a combined colour, known as an 'accidental', so adding an extra layer of depth to the design.

'Lobby' is an example of a wallpaper design that can easily translate to use on fabric, to great effect. It forms part of the new Polychrome collection which is currently on view at Sigmar Gallery, 263 Kings Road, London and at the Marthe Armitage studios.
